Inspire North Values in British Sign Language

This week is Sign Language Week, an exciting national campaign led by the British Deaf Association (BDA).

Throughout the week, have been sharing our organisational values of People, Collaboration, Passion and Integrity with you in British Sign Language on social media.

Watch the video below to see our colleagues Laura and Vicky sign all of our values.

Sign Language Week is celebrated every year in March to commemorate the first time British Sign Language (BSL) was acknowledged as a language in its own right by the UK Government on 18 March 2003. This year marks the 20th anniversary of that historic moment!

At Inspire North, we are proud to be an inclusive company and a Disability Confident Leader, and we have enjoyed learning more about BSL and the culture of the Deaf, Deafblind, and hard-of-hearing people in our communities this week.

We also have an Accessibility Network which acts safe space for any employee of Inspire North who identifies as having a disability to share appropriate support and guidance to overcome barriers that they may face, as well as providing feed back to the relevant teams within Inspire North around what would support accessibility for all.

To read about Team Leader Vicky’s experience of being a BSL user and her thoughts on this year’s theme of Sign Language Week is ‘Protecting BSL’, check out our post: https://www.inspirenorth.co.uk/news/sign-language-week-2023/
