Finding Stillness of Mind
Suicide Prevention – September 2024
Find Stillness of Mind
This World Suicide Prevention Day is about showing how talking about difficult feelings doesn’t have to be scary.
According to a recent poll by Samaritans, only 45% of people felt comfortable talking about suicidal thoughts, this is compared to 74% of people who felt comfortable talking about mental health…
It doesn’t have to be like this.
We can learn to talk more openly, give people the chance to express themselves and how they feel so that they can get the support that they need.
Sometimes a conversation can save a life.
This year we wanted to explore positive ways to express our feelings and ways to reconnect with ourselves, coming out of our minds into our bodies and the world around us.
We caught up with yoga teacher, Vicky who found yoga through climbing and has come to learn the benefits of yoga for body and mind. Vicky is passionate about sharing the mental health benefits of yoga with others and how yoga can be transformational.
‘Find Stillness of Mind’- Vicky Jennings
”During this week we are encouraged to think about our mental health. The things we can do to help our mental health in times of need. Things like yoga can sometimes save lives, because when someone feels overwhelmed, it has the ability to help ground you, quieten your mind, reconnect you to yourself and to the rest of the universe.
As humans we are social creatures, and need human connection. Sometimes, even if we have managed to ground ourselves, we might still need somebody to talk to.
Yoga can bring us together, we can learn some amazing techniques and it can help to ground us to the world around us. Through movement and flow we can get out of our minds and into our bodies.”
Vicky is hosting a charity yoga class for Samaritans on 14th September at 6pm.
